Jupiter Ascending

I took my boys to see Jupiter Ascending recently. If you like Sci Fi you will enjoy this movie. There’s lots of fantastic special effects that keep the little eyes glued to the screen.

Be sure to check you didn’t make the same mistake as me though and book for the movie with subtitles! I booked on line and to be honest, the warning that this was a subtitled film was not clear enough from The Odeon. Whist I understand they have a responsibility to provide this kind of support, it should have been more obvious. It drove me mad!

Jupiter Ascending is a kind of Cinderella story – a young destitute Russian, immigrant, toilet scrubber (Mila Kunis) is targeted by a trio of powerful galactic royals. They believe her genetic code makes her a royal and teleport her to their advanced planets. She is targeted by the ruthless son of a powerful family, who lives on a planet in need of a new heir, so she travels with a genetically engineered warrior to the planet in order to stop his tyrant reign. Confused? You will be!

The Wachowskis (The Matrix) have created a fantastic CGI world but the narrative is weak.

Channing Tatum is fantastic in this action role although the eyeliner was a bit much! But if that’s the only thing I can criticise the boy for, he did something right!

The kids will enjoy it but the adults may find themselves mentally making their shopping lists or wondering what to cook for dinner….
